72 Minutes of Fame is the third major full-length album by C418. It is also the only album to have a limited CD release (CDs for Minecraft - Volume Alpha are also no longer being sold, although they were not marketed as a limited edition; one and Excursions are still being sold).
Official descriptions
Imagine an album with just a few tunes. Now imagine that album being house, breakbeat, drum&bass, ambient and orchestral... well. It's all that and more!—C418, Bandcamp
An entirely new album full of eclectic tunes. Intended to listen to as loud as possible!
I hope you enjoy this album as much as I did making it. It's a crazy one, I promise you that!—C418, Bandcamp
Ah, nostalgia. 72 Minutes of Fame is the first album I released after I became completely freelance. No job, no need to wake up to go somewhere, freedom. Well, sort of. This was the first album I physically published and shipped myself. It was a lot of hard work and I was definitely not very good at it, ha![...]
I’ve always had the urge to make an album that is just purely meant to dance on. My experience wasn’t particularly great, so 72 Minutes represents my attempt to learn how to make house music. I personally don’t know if I succeeded. It’s definitely fascinatingly experimental.
[...]
72 Minutes of Fame stands for the feeling I’ve had that I was known as a one trick pony at the time. I made Minecraft music and that was all I was good at. I mean, of course not, I am a very eclectic composer and a lot of my albums are crazy varied. Also nobody ever told me such a thing. I just had this premonition that this is the case and I was all intent to prove that specific nobody as much wrong as I possibly can.
In that I succeded. 72 Minutes is not Minecraft, lol.—C419, c418.org

There’s a poem about working and death, called “Alive”. My mental headspace at that time was obviously me quitting my job, and being scared sh*tless doing it. Freelance composer IS a job, but it’s more often than not a very unlucrative job, and I did have a sort of cushy gig as an assembly person in a factory. It was boring, but I had money. And then I just decided to print out the letter of resignation and walked away. Scary back then, a no brainer to me now.—C418, c418.org

The world passed away
All in just one day
But if you've prayed to God
All should be okay
You should have fought
For your reason to live
You should have got
To places you love
You should have paid
All the debts you owe
You should have thanked
All the people that kept you
Alive...
Alive...
Alive...
Alive...
Now it is over
The world has ceased to exist.
You could have done million things
But you never had the time.
You stuck with your stable life
To have a bed to sleep in.
You've never done the things you wanted
Just because you thought you'd stay
Alive...

My brother was also into the idea of buildups that are unexpected and lead into nothing. Kind of annoy everyone, but then drop the bomb. You can hear a lot of that in “You Have to Cut the Dope”.—C418, c418.org

"Marketing Squander Versus the Little Man" begins with an echoing period of various rhythmic buzzing and beeping that slowly fades into a clicking drum beat accompanied by an arpeggio. Once the main song begins, the drum beat is given primary attention as it is accompanied by a looping bass synthesizer and a passive, erratic melody made up of bell-like sounds, along with atmospheric background chords. In a bridge section, all elements are divided with one half only being drums and the introductory buzzing and the second half being the bell-like melody accompanied by atmospheric background chords.
With the bridge having finished, the first half of the song replays with a different melody accompanied by various rhythmic background ambient synthesizers, building up into a voice synthesizer playing an awkward melody. The song temporarily returns to minimal use of instruments with drums and atmospheric background synthesizers to transition to a section with minimal bass accompanied by a rising bass arpeggio with the bell-like synthesizers and atmospheric synthesizers playing in sequence before transitioning to minimal drums, atmospheric synthesizers and the bass arpeggio. After a gradual intense buildup using various ambient synthesizers and a minimal drum beat, another section is played with minimal bass as a repeating bouncing melody plays in the background that then intensifies into a transition into the final section of the song. The rhythmic background synthesizer returns to form a drum beat as the bouncing melody continues, and the final section is a repeat of the previous section accompanied by breath-like chords before degrading into various synthesizers and the main bass with a rising synthesizer that distorts before descending and transitioning into the next song.

There’s a song that lasts around 15 minutes and keeps changing pace, that’s “From the Window”, “Along the Busiest of Roads” and “Welcome Back to the Machine”. I mean, it technically is one song. When I made it, it was just one project file.—C418, c418.org

There’s an orchestral arrangement for nothing in particular at the end of the album. Called “Stilbruch”. I think I created it because I was totally into the idea of minimalism in real physical arrangements. I mean, I also bought a ton of new sample libraries and needed to try them out.—C418, c418.org
