life changing moments seem minor in pictures is an album by C418 released in 2010, containing an assortment of songs and projects from the six months leading up to the album's release. The decision to release the album came when, after returning to Berlin for the summer, Daniel Rosenfeld discovered he would be forced to do conscription for the German government for the next six months of his life.
Many songs are the result of C418's involvement with indie game development, and in particular with TIGSource. A number were even created for a game made by C418 himself, ezo.

The funniest thing a friend said about that album title was, "Huh. That's actually smart".
I'm not sure if it is, but I think the title describes the album perfectly to me.
The thought to release this album came in Summer 2010 when I was in Berlin, meeting a lot of old friends. At the last couple of days my mother called me saying that the german government sent me a mail, declining my beg to delay the conscription every healthy german male person had to endure. Because if they would force me to do conscription, I'd lose a stable job and had to do 6 months of work that would have low payments and lead me to nothing at all.
So I was in Berlin, meeting good friends, and Germany just screwed up my holidays.
Paul Veer gifted me this polaroid he did, featuring me, Increpare and a guy that likes to be called Esq.
Looking at the picture I realized how boring this sudden change in my life seemed to be. And thinking more about it I actually thought that if anything, Germany finally went ahead and did the thing I was too scared to do. Getting rid of my boring job as a guy that screwed bolts for some rich monopoly company.
This chapter of my life felt to big to just leave it there, so I decided to collect the music I produced the previous 6 months and put it in a big music album.
At first I released this album for free on Bandcamp, but thanks to Notch of Minecraft fame it got downloaded so often that it probably made quite some terrabytes of traffic on the Bandcamp servers. After that Bandcamp introduced their relatively good payment system, but that also meant I had to put a price tag onto that album.
So with the amount of music in it (about 80 minutes), it's probably the cheapest album I am selling.
Probably too cheap. But I love you, so it'll stay one dollar fooooreeveeeer.
life changing moments seem minor in pictures is an album I created when I just quit my job and the German military decided they really needed me to still work, just after I went with the mindset of “I can be independent.”
I mean, ultimately it was just six months of extra work I had to do for the country. It wasn’t even military work. I was allowed to do social work instead. Still though, I was forced to do work JUST when I decided that maybe I can try things on my own. I still dream of this feeling of having to do work, even though I just decided to be free.
…feels like I just wrote the same sentence five times. Well, yeah, it was a strong emotion, haha.
This album is a collection of stuff I did for several things. Most of them originate from my time with the TIGSource community

The eclecticism of this album is very strong, and I think that’s why it kind of aged well, perhaps? There’s so much variety, anyone can find stuff in there.

Trivia
- Nominated by C418 himself as /r/C418's fourth Song of the Week. This is currently the only track that has been featured by Daniel rather than a fan.
- Also chosen by /u/Dozyjones for the twentieth Song of the Week as she didn't realise it had already been nominated. This means that I lack an emotion is also currently the only track to have been featured more than once.

I can't afford mastering
It is rather expensive
“I can’t afford mastering” was made at the Berlin Indie Game jam, which was a TIGSource community operated event.

There are also a lot of ambient works that I’m kinda proud of to this day ... I named all of these at the same time because they originate from a singular project, called ezo. It was a game I created for one of the Ludum Dare game jams. But most importantly, it was the first game I ever created. Not really good, but it was a game! All of these ambient songs essentially have been created by using Absynth and the mutate button, haha. Real good for rapid prototyping!

Droopy is in charge
Featured in the video on minecraft.net
“Droopy Likes Ricochet” and “Droopy Likes your Face” are both songs from “life changing moments seem minor in pictures”. It’s a song I haven’t created for anything in particular, but the first Droopy song ended up in the first official Minecraft game trailer. I get a lot of questions on what Droopy says. To be fair, I don’t know. It’s a sample library that you receive if you buy Kontakt. As far as I know, it’s a toy you could buy in the 80’s or 90’s which says random phrases about itself.
Life changing moments is also the album where Droopy, a song people know from Minecraft, originally came from. I think the reason I added it to Minecraft Alpha is because at the time, the official Minecraft trailer used this song.

Connections
- Despite the gap between the two, this is the second part of Droopy likes ricochet.
- Also appeared on Minecraft - Volume Alpha, albeit as a slightly shorter "solus" version that ended normally instead of fading into I don't need to know you to be in love.
- Was combined with Droopy likes ricochet and remixed on 148 as Droopy Remembers.
Trivia
- Despite both tracks being named "Droopy", only this one contains the iconic vocal effects.

Sometimes I make video game music
But only sometimes
“Sometimes I make video game music” has been made for a game jam based on the Action 52 NES catridge. The game jam itself didn’t really pan out because of bad organisation, but I created a ton of stuff which ended up on this album nonetheless.

Long songs are for people who don't have time to make them short
“Long songs are for people who don’t have time to make them short” is probably worth mentioning for how silly it is. Back then I wanted to make a rapid fire of short songs put into a singular song, so this is what it ended up being. And people say I only write ambient! Pah!

If you don't know what to do just steal the amen break
It's the quickest solution
“if you don’t know what to do just steal the amen break” is a silly little proverb that I used to hold dear when I didn’t know how to make a song sound good. The amen break is a very famous drum loop, which is also embedded into this song. If you would like to know more about the amen break itself, check out this video/audio. The song is pretty straightforward. I must have found some sort of monophonic synth preset that I appreciated, cuz I went wild with one, haha.
Please do

Trivia
- This track's description on Bandcamp reading "It may kill you" is also used for the next track "lack of creativity is dangerous in Berlin." The comment was presumably added to this track's description on Bandcamp by accident, as it does not make sense with the title and the song it does make sense with comes immediately afterward.
What now?
Trivia
- life changing moments seem minor in pictures originally was the ezo soundtrack, but C418 expanded it to include a load of tracks he did at around the same time.
- "What now?" is notable for being a hidden track on Bandcamp, only appearing once the album has been downloaded.
- It primarily features the sound of rain, with portions of various songs from life changing moments seem minor in pictures occasionally being heard in the background. Additionally, a person working and setting objects down can be heard throughout the track.
