148 is the sixth major full-length album by C418. It features a variety of remixes and live edits, some of which had previously appeared on other artists' albums, and several original tracks featuring vocals. Though completed in mid 2015, it was delayed by almost half a year to create an interactive digital experience that would complement it.[1] This idea was eventually shelved, and the album saw a low-key release on December 18, 2015.

Despite the minimal amount of marketing and Daniel's personal disdain for the album, it is one of his most popular releases outside of the Minecraft volumes. 148 has also been the subject of heavy intrigue and analysis due to its cryptic lyrics, repetition of numbers, and multiple scrapped elements. This would lead to the creation of The C418 Debacle, a now infamous two-part fan theory that was posted to the r/C418 subreddit and inadvertently solidified the fan community.

Official descriptions

148 is a highly energetic and loud mouthed release full of house and drum&bass tunes. There's a house ballad, there's collaboration with cool artists and there's also some surprises, like Minecraft remixes I haven't shown anywhere else but at live shows.

I've been working on this thing for over five years. At least a few songs I've worked on from the beginning until the last day, even. I wish I would have saved every single version of all of these songs so I could see how they changed, but before 2012 I really didn't understand what backing up really meant, haha. This album is also a super interesting evolution of my own sound. When I started making it, I was all into all-analog. When I finished making it, I wasn't really concerned about using digital means to reach the same goal anymore. When I started making this, I was a scared composer, fresh off of Minecraft fame. Unsure what the future would bring me. And when I finished making it, I became a jaded composer, hypercritical of every single piece I ever created, worried that my old work shows that I'm not good enough.

That really doesn't matter anymore though, because I think I'm happy with this album.

It just has been plaguing me for too long. I think that you can't be happy with anything if you've stared at it too close for too long. Which is why I decided to stealth release it without any announcement. I've had incredibly unproductive years recently, and a lot of it had to do with being burnt out and partly being somewhat depressed. This album didn't really help my psyche either. By releasing this, right now, I hope I can get to a clean slate and start beginning work on new stuff. And, of course, maybe it stops making everyone worried that I stopped composing altogether.

So, this is it! 148 has been started on a gigantic computer system somewhere in East Germany in 2011 and finished on a tiny laptop in Toronto, 2015.

"Jimtention" begins with a deep single-note bass drone fading into a chirpy, shrill arpeggio with a synthesizer bass backing that builds up to include a melodic sequence of synthesizers playing an upbeat melody, eventually including a guitar, with the bass backing building up into a crescendo with a rising synthesizer. A sparkle is emitted as the introductory sequence winds down into the drone with slight distortion, only to transition into the shrill arpeggio, beginning the main song.

The shrill arpeggio is layered with a rapid version of the introductory guitar sequence and upbeat melody with a consistent bass backing as the song builds up to include a deep, growling bass arpeggio, eventually leading to a drum sequence as the bass arpeggio continues. As the drums continue to play, the bass arpeggio is filtered and is layered with a second arpeggio of a higher pitch that rises up to clarity before the drums are given further hectic details, allowing the bass arpeggio to build up and gain an equally hectic sense of energy before making a crescendo and transitioning into a bridge. During the bridge sequence, the shrill arpeggio in the first verse replays along with the bass arpeggio, continued by a sequence with drums and the higher-pitched arpeggio in order to build into the second section of the song.

In the second section of the song, a piano sequence is included on top of the various arpeggios to play in coincidence with each shifting pitch. The bass arpeggio also introduces a second layer played in coincidence as the drums include further hectic percussion before the song becomes a crescendo yet again. However, in the next section, the melody of the song is different, instead looping the same arpeggio hectically and building up repeatedly before finally concluding and reducing to only a sequence of drums and the bass arpeggio, the song eventually fading out and into only the bass drum of the drum sequence in a sweeping sound as it transitions to the next song in coincidence with the fading bass arpeggio.
