zweitonegoismus is German for "two-toned egoism" and was C418's first venture into making a serious, full-length album.
Official descriptions
My most experimental album yet.—C418, Bandcamp
zweitonegoismus is probably the most concise and least eclectic album I created. If you scrub through it, you probably notice that it generally sounds brooding and depressing. I created this album to describe my mood, being a worker bee in an assembly line factory. zweiton egoismus translates to “two tone egoism”. If I remember correctly, I was trying to imply that I wanted to make an album purely for myself and nobody else. I was ashamed of being too repetitive and not being varied enough. So here’s an album that has about two different kind of changes of tones. And a lot of “egoistic” minimalism.
[...]
zweitonegoismus is a short album, but I think it’s good that it doesn’t waste anyone’s time. When I showed it to a coworker, they asked why the hell I am still working there. That kinda stuck with me. Years later I quit that job to be a full time composer. Thank you, coworker friend.—C418, C418.org
My most personal work. And the most experimental too!
I don’t exactly know my intentions of doing something like that anymore. I think it happened very naturally due to my dull and melancholic life at that time. I was just putting notes on what I’ve seen. There are two collaborations on this album, both including the voice of smn and once a “horribly out of tune” guitar by a very good friend of mine. As every free album I have done, it has flaws. When I put this out on the net, I felt a big depression because of my so called flaws. Today I think everything needs some kind of flaw to be sort of predictable, and maybe more friendly…—C418, This is C418
This album is weird. And I can't recall what state of mind I was in when producing in. However I think it's a lovely accomplishement. If I still had the original files of the album, which got lost due to HDD cancer, I'd probably merely remaster it and be done with it. Because I think it's the most original thing I've ever done. It's also free. What are you waiting for?—C418, C418.org (old website)

the only track I'm not entirely happy with—C418, Bandcamp
“egoismus” was my attempt at making minimalistic house music, at the time. I was always kind of jealous of composers that were able to accomplish so much with so little. It was also really hard for me to do as little as possible when composing. I feel like if I repeat a phrase too often, it looks like I’m lazy. I think that’s why I named the track “egoism”.—C418, c418.org
Connections
- Remixed on 2 years of failure as egoismus_2016edit, presumably to remake it in a form that C418 is happy with.
- The siren sample used toward of the end of this track would later be used in The Long-Winded and Painful Death of Sweeney S Greenville in the album I forgot something, didn't I.
- I can't afford mastering from life changing moments seem minor in pictures also uses siren sounds, albeit a different siren sample.

You can probably hear that the most in “kopfmusic,” which is a song that essentially describes an average workday. From waking up, to having the grueling walk to work, the dull work day itself and finally the walk back home.—C418, c418.org
Trivia
- Officially translated as "headmusic".
- A similar style of mixing environmental sound effects with a changing melody was used in Höre and In Berlin people act differently.

“phlips” was a challenge a friend I hold very dear gave to me. He gave me a set of samples and I had to create a song with it. This is the result. I still like it to this date.—C418, c418.org

a collaborative effort—C418, Bandcamp
Similarly in “phleps” [flip] recorded a simple guitar strum, and I made a song based on that with another old friend, “sohnemann”. He’s responsible for all the lyrics on this album. Contrary to popular belief I didn’t sing on this album. At least I think I didn’t, haha.—C418, c418.org
This little thing was made after a good friend tried out his new mics. Trough his guitar playing test, another good friend thought it would be a great idea to add lyrics. After that was made, I thought it would be a good idea to add anything that comes to my mind. and here we have Phleps.—C418, Newgrounds
Lyrics

The weeks have been passing by quite slowly
But now it is time
to let go of all the bitterness
Time to get by
Time to get by
I've cost myself all things I couldn't influence
Shed bitter tears over nothing at all
But now it's finally time to get my life back
Stop thinking of you and leave it all
Trivia
- Sohnemann (also known as smn) previously did vocals for BAM #33 and jacke.
- Although smn performed the vocals to both phleps and plastik, C418's voice was previously heard in BAM #23. The vocals in Thank and Will / Pink are also believed to be his, albeit with heavy editing.

sohnemann helped a lot.—C418, Bandcamp
Again with “plastik,” sohnemann provided the lyrics, while I created a song based around it. He didn’t even sing the notes. I completely modified his vocals, haha. Probably the first time I tinkered around with melodyne.—C418, c418.org

Yep. [clears throat]
[clears throat]
Hey you
Do I know you from somewhere?
I'm not quite sure but I think
I have seen you before
It's just a feeling
You look so familiar to me
Maybe, maybe we have met in some strange place
in my head
But you don't seem to recognise me
which makes me wonder
Where does this memory come from?
I just don't know
Maybe if you'd like
we could introduce ourselves
So we wouldn't be strangers
Anymore

- Officially translated as "plastic".
