zweitonegoismus is German for "two-toned egoism" and was C418's first venture into making a serious, full-length album.
Official descriptions
My most experimental album yet.—C418, Bandcamp
zweitonegoismus is probably the most concise and least eclectic album I created. If you scrub through it, you probably notice that it generally sounds brooding and depressing. I created this album to describe my mood, being a worker bee in an assembly line factory. zweiton egoismus translates to “two tone egoism”. If I remember correctly, I was trying to imply that I wanted to make an album purely for myself and nobody else. I was ashamed of being too repetitive and not being varied enough. So here’s an album that has about two different kind of changes of tones. And a lot of “egoistic” minimalism.—C418, c418.org
zweitonegoismus is a short album, but I think it’s good that it doesn’t waste anyone’s time. When I showed it to a coworker, they asked why the hell I am still working there. That kinda stuck with me. Years later I quit that job to be a full time composer. Thank you, coworker friend.—C418, c418.org

the only track I'm not entirely happy with—C418, Bandcamp
“egoismus” was my attempt at making minimalistic house music, at the time. I was always kind of jealous of composers that were able to accomplish so much with so little. It was also really hard for me to do as little as possible when composing. I feel like if I repeat a phrase too often, it looks like I’m lazy. I think that’s why I named the track “egoism”.—C418, c418.org
Connections
- Remixed on 2 years of failure as egoismus_2016edit, presumably to remake it in a form that C418 is happy with.

a collaborative effort—C418, Bandcamp
Similarly in “phleps” he recorded a simple guitar strum, and I made a song based on that with another old friend, “sohnemann”. He’s responsible for all the lyrics on this album. Contrary to popular belief I didn’t sing on this album. At least I think I didn’t, haha.—C418, c418.org

The weeks have been passing by quite slowly
But now it is time
to let go of all the bitterness
Time to get by
Time to get by
I've cost myself all things I couldn't influence
Shed bitter tears over nothing at all
But now it's finally time to get my life back
Stop thinking of you and leave it all
Trivia
- Sohnemann (also known as smn) previously did vocals for BAM #33 and jacke.
- Although smn performed the vocals to both phleps and plastik, C418's voice was previously heard in BAM #23. The vocals in thank and will/Pink are also believed to be his, albeit with heavy editing.

Yep. [clears throat]
[clears throat]
Hey you
Do I know you from somewhere?
I'm not quite sure but I think
I have seen you before
It's just a feeling
You look so familiar to me
Maybe, maybe we have met in some strange place
in my head
But you don't seem to recognise me
which makes me wonder
Where does this memory come from?
I just don't know
Maybe if you'd like
we could introduce ourselves
So we wouldn't be strangers
Anymore
